April 23, 2009
A beautiful sunny day, went to harbor, they are preparing for boat show this weekend. The Americas Cup was held partly off Trapani in 2005.
I was walking back from beach along the shore and a car stopped, an old man asked me in Italian , if I wanted a ride. He was driving an old Fiat, I tried to sell him a new car!, Just kidding, he was very nice and shook my hand whem he drpped me off.

I have a question, what are mignon and what do they look like?

Is some small thing from pasticceria but what exactly? And how does it differ from a corneto or a sfogliatelle?

Also the Italian language starting to make a bit of sense to me. For example, MAP is foglio
or in English close approximate would be a folio, like in portfolio.

Then broad flat rolled out dough is sfoglia for some reason puts an s in front of the word. But like map is broad flat thing.

Then to layer the strips you get sfogliatelle, a telle seems to be diminuitive suffix.

Also is interesting the word for LEFT in Italian is sinistra, in the olden days some people thought was bad to be left-handed

or also the left-handed path of for example tantra or any tradition is the non-traditional way, even a bit sinister to the mainstream folk.

Or even how leaning to the left politically is viewed by others as "sinister"...the roots of this from Italia? The Roman Empire?

Interesting the Italian language.

Hope you are having more wonderful adventures every day...

FYI...mignon refers to any type of sweet (as in the pasticceria). Italians often use words of French origin when they want to imply that item is chic, or trendy.
...capisca adesso?

Are any of your kids left-handed? You can answer this off-line, if that's too personal.

The study of the Italian language can be enhanced if you try to separate the words into their parts...like the famous, delicious Italian dish - - - PIZZA !

PI ZZ A

pi...because you need to know the circumfirence of the pizza.

zz...of course, you will be taking a nap after eating the dang thing.

a...the sound of an Italian burp.

I hope you enjoy your study of the fascinating language of I - TAL - Y !!!
