This is an event I went to Sunday
Good morning Gene,
That was no problem for me, and I was a pleasure to meet you and talk! Do you know that tomorrow is the Music Festival in Dolo? It's a celebration created about 25 years ago in France that quickly spread around Europe and has now become a global celebration for the first day of summer. The theory behind it is that amateur musicians take to the streets with their instruments and play whatever they like. It's a blast in big cities with entire orchestras in the streets, and there is usually some kind of event in each city. In Jugon they don't organise anything because in Dolo we do it all.
Today the event is a bit more structured and in Dolo every year there are over 100 musicians - in all styles of music- and about 4000 people show up. There will probably be less this year because it is a Sunday. In any case it is a fun day! Music will start in the afternoon and go on til late at night. There are food and drink stands, lots of people and the whole village pitches in to man a booth or participate in some way. At around midnight they light a huge bonfire next to the pond in Dolo. Its a lot of fun and you should come check it out. There is even a Country music group who do line dancing etc. Country music and line dancing have been quite popular in France for a few years now. And it is funny to see how well they play and dance, really get into it and wear Stetsons, boots and bolo ties. Some participants are American but most are French.
This weekend there is also a running race Saturday afternoon, and a bike race Sunday morning. I'll be busy with both those events and the music festival. I'll be selling galettes and crepes Sunday evening so be sure to come find me. 5 to 7pm and then 9 to 11pm.
Let me know if I can help you in anyway, please don't hesitate to call or email. My parents are coming back from Paris this morning, so you might see my Mom in town.
