March 31,2009

My day started early,I got up at 4 AM, had to work on cleaning up my computor,it was very slow. I got it working good now.

I went to the Trapani harbor at 6 AM, saw the fisherman bringing in their catch. They had a big fish market their, it was interesting.

I acme home and went to the pescaria a few doors down from where I live, I bought some fresh caught sardines. I fryed some for breakfast and fixed the rest for dinner, I cooked them in wine ,garlic, fennel, onions, parsely, fresh tomatoes.
I have just realized today that their are no fast food resturants here,no MacDonalds,or any others.
I saw a very interesting church here,Saint Peatros , it has 11 domes ,1 big one and 5 smaller ones on each side.
I saw a cat and a dog who was sitting with his front paws crossed, he really looked relaxed.
I went to a beautiful park near Piaaza Garibaldi, it had ficus trees,I think they were banyan trees, it had date palms, ducks, swans and geese.Lots of statues and fountains.

Hi!

Buon giorno!

The photos are so beautiful of the park, swans, ficus, etc.

I had some questions about previous posts:

__ How did that chickpea crust pizza turn out? Also I read Sicilia has chickpea fritters have you tried that? They are called pancelles or something like that.

__ You showed a picture of olive oil, it was XXXglione brand. What was the full name of the brand? Castiglione? or~?

__ March 17 has some funny comments in case you missed, 8 altogether. Also has some funny comments with University of Trapani and the Argument of the Pastry Workers entries.

__ The umbrella ragazzo [guy] is very cute.

__ How do you prepare pork chop Milanese? I understand you begin with a pork chop, but what do you do after that? Is it breaded and then topped with...?

Hi!

I was reading in Fred Plotkin's book Italy for the Gourmet Traveller that Sicilia is well-known for pagaentry at Easter. So is a very special thing you will be seeing. The roots are in medieval times.

Also said that in these celebrations in Sicilia there is a lot of devotion and over the top emotions of happiness and also sadness. Sadness because many people had to leave to find work, happiness because is very beautiful nature's bounty there.

It said also that Sicilia has very good Easter and Xmas pastries.

Also said that fresh sardines taste different than canned...do you find that to be true? What do fresh sardines taste like anyway?

In addition it said they have a type of fish neonatale means the baby fish, do you see that?

It said that in winter every month a different type of citrus ripens in Sicilia and you should try them all. Do you notice different varieities of citrus? YOu mentioned the blood ornage for example...

Pointed out also that Sicilia is the one region of Italia does not have a tradition of antipasti. So they substitute their own creations when the tourists came looking for antipasti, such as the fried foods of pancelles and arancini.

It said also that Sicilia is nice because it is off the tourist trap circuit and the people are who they are as they are.

Especially out of all these readings, I think that medieval pagaent is really going to be special and colorful, as the book said Sicilia especially is known for this Easter Stations of the Cross observances.

Hope this meets you in good health and happiness.

HEY! It sounds like a fabulous adventure...have you seen other interesting vinegars besides balsamic?

I love sherry vinegar...I bet they have amarone (is that what they call the bittersweet aperitif?)vinegar.

So this guy, he was in the habit of tucking his daughter in to bed every night, and she would always say a sweet prayer..."goodnight mother, goodnight father, goodnight grandmother, goodnight grandfather"

One night, she changed the prayer slightly..."goodnight grandmother, goodbye grandfather" !

He asked his daughter why she said this , and she only said "because I will miss him".

Sure enough, the next day grandfather dropped dead!

Then next week, the girl changed the prayer to "goodbye grandmother"...

Then as the father feared, the grandfather died the next day!!

The following week, of course, the girl's prayer was "goodnight mother, goodbye father" !!!

OOOH...the father knew he was doomed! He went to work early, locked himself in his office, did not go out for lunch, was on guard all day...he stayed locked in his office until midnight. Only then did he feel safe to go home!

His wife said " I haven't seen you work this hard ever!" He replied "This has been the worst day of my life!"

His wife retorted "My day was horrible, too! My tennis pro dropped dead today!""

hehehe

I love your blog, but can I make a suggestion about your food photography?

I would like you to try holding the camera down lower...instead of directly above the plate...so it will be like looking at the person sitting next to you's plate!
