I read that there is a museum of Wine in Trapani. They give free samples. Museum ENO I think is the name of it. Like ENOTECA, a restaurant that features wine in Italia.
Did you ever go to Assisi? I just read that it's the same as it was 700 years ago. They allow no new construction, to keep it the way St. Francis experienced it. The area is also supposed to be a center for Italy's green movement.
I also read that when you roll out sheets of noodle dough, before cutting it into lasagne or canneloni or tagliatelle shapes, is called SFOGLIA. The word SFOGIADELLA then comes from that.
I also read that they have a SFOGLIADELLE festival in Italy, in the city where it was invented: a monastery.
And they have lots of festivals in Italia, both ancient and modern. Such as ancient harvest festivals, for example to Goddess Ceres [goddess of grain] from where we get the word cereal.
Also I read Italy has had 50 plus new governments since WWII. DeGaulle asked how can he govern a country that has 365 different cheeses? Italy has over 500 different types of cheeses.
I've been to Assisi...I'm not sure of the no new constuction rule, though...unless they came up with it only recently...so many of the big cities in Italia were renovated for the Jubilee in 2000. No shortage of souvenier shops in Assisi...but on a brighter note, I bought some delicioso torrone there (almonds with orange-white chocolate coating!).Yow-zer!
